This project is to design a space that confronts and eliminates physical and mental boundaries found within society.
The aim of the design is to create an environment where everyone feels
welcome in an environment that they
would normally find uncomfortable,
challenging and confrontational.
The clientele will most likely still feel those intimidating emotion; however, the
desired atmosphere will make them feel comfortable enough to exercise in the nude.
How can my design concept influence the user's physical activity through my interior?
How can I design an interior that has an influence on my user's health and mentality?
How can I tackle the issues of privacy, body image and confidence?
CONCEPT
In wanting to create a health and fitness gymnasium with a twist; I thought about the stigmas and stereotypes of gym- goers. Once identifying the biggest issues, I wanted to emphasis and intensify the obstacles that keep people away from such places. By recognising one's self- confidence in their own body image as one of the major obstacles to getting people in attending a gym, I decided to design an interior that encourages people into fitness, which then expanded into encouraging an overall healthier lifestyle and mentality. Resulting in the design of a space where stripping down and becoming naked is one of the essential components in entering the building. This place, ideally, needs to be a place where one can aim for total comfort through physical awareness and wholeness.
